GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY TO JOIN ACHA MEN’S DIVISION 1 FOR 2020-2021 SEASON
Lakers to move from ACHA Men’s Division 2
TROY, Mich. – (March 10, 2020) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association, the governing body for non-varsity college hockey in the United States, announced that Grand Valley State University has been approved for membership in ACHA Men's Division 1 beginning with the 2020-2021 season.
The Lakers have a rich tradition of success in the ACHA, winning the ACHA Men’s Division 2 National Championship in 2010-2011 and being the ACHA Men’s Division 2 National Runners-Up in the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons.
With the move to Men’s Division 1 in 2020-2021, the Lakers have been accepted as members of the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL). Grand Valley State becomes the eighth member of the GLCHL, competing against Adrian College, Davenport University, Calvin University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Oakland University, and Western Michigan University.

Grand Valley State will join George Mason University as the two new additions in 2020-2021 to Men’s Division 1. With the addition of Grand Valley State and George Mason, a total of 72 teams will compete in Men’s Division 1 for the 2020-2021 season.
